My Book Reading April 15

I shall be doing a book reading from my latest book, The Levinson Report: Cutting Edge Satire for Geniuses Like You, at the Albert Ellis Institute (45 E. 65 ST. NYC) on Thursday, April 15 at 6:30pm.  Please join me for the event. I have included a recent review of the book below.

Review of: The Levinson Report: Cutting Edge Satire for Geniuses Like You

Satire involves attacking human vice or folly through irony, derision, or wit. Its literary use dates back to the ancient Greeks, who used elements of satire in some of their plays. The Romans, though, are considered the first true satirists. Horace and Juvenal are prominent representatives from this group.

This book uses the satirical form to skewer a wide array of targets ranging from American foreign policy in the Middle East to self-improvement hucksterism. Specifically, the book is divided into four parts that contain 33 highly inspiring, edifying, and compelling essaysI

Part I examines General Concerns with subjects ranging from a send-up of clichés to ten arguments against intelligent design.
Part II explores Domestic Concerns like gun control, education, and health care.
Part III investigates Self-Improvement Concerns such as how to triumph over difficult people, ways to defeat low self-esteem, and why winning is the most important thing in life.
Part IV looks at International Concerns and includes excerpts from the Bush diary on Iraq, an interview with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and a discussion of suicide bombing and the good life.

In the book’s Introduction the author states, “I hope you find the satire contained in The Levinson Report informative and entertaining and that you will think more deeply about the topics being spoofed. With that said, my attorney has advised me that I must provide the following warning: The material that follows may cause your mind to expand and your nervous system to register feelings of enjoyment. However, don’t be alarmed if you experience these effects. They are rarely long lasting and real life is the perfect antidote.” With reassurance like that you’ve got nothing to lose. Read this book!
